Apple iPhone battery life has since the first iPhone always been a hot topic of discussion and the battery time for a single charge just never seems to be sufficient long for a large number of users. With the iPhone 5S and 5C, Apple has increased the battery capacity and also improved the battery life.
With every new iPhone model, and even with every new iOS version, complaints about insufficient battery life always seem to emerge. When the iPhone 5 was release approximately one year ago, the situation was the same and many users complained about very poor battery life on their phones. With the recent release of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, it can therefore be expected that it will not take very long before discussions regarding the battery life will emerge once again, even though the battery specifications (shown in the table below) have been improved.
Fixes to battery issues normally involves turning off unused radios, that is, 3G, LTE, WiFi and GPS as well as turning down the screen brightness. On the software side, Apple is also doing what it can to improve the efficiency of the iOS system in general. However, the ultimate limit to the battery time of a portable device is of course tied to the battery capacity.
The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C therefore carries a slightly larger battery as compared with previous iPhone models. The battery in the iPhone 5S has a capacity of 1570 mAh and the iPhone 5C has a capacity of 1507 mAh, both which constitutes an improvement over the battery in iPhone 5 which has a capacity of 1440 mAh. The increased battery capacity coupled with a more efficient hardware (CPU) and a new iOS has resulted in what Apple claims to be significant improvement in battery time per full charge. As an example, Apple claims that the experienced battery life by the users will be improved by 25% for an iPhone 5S as compared to an iPhone 5.
Whether or not the battery life of the iPhone 5S can live up to its expectations is of course something that has to be decided once enough user data is known. For now, the efforts to enhance the battery life is certainly a welcomed improvements and hopefully the controversial Touch ID fingerprint reader will not become a major battery hog.
For reference, the battery specifications for the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S are given in the table below.

Yeah, the battery capacity of iPhone 5s/c truly increase. But I find ios7 make battery drain rapidly. I have bought an iPhone 5S, but I find ios7 drain battery rapidly. It's pretty not convenient because of its irremovable battery, especially when I go out. I recently bought a portable charger from Kinkoo: http://www.ikinkoo.com/shop/portable-charger/kinkoo-infinite-one-8000mah.html
ReplyDeleteI have found it to be great. With real 8,000mAh can charge iPhone 5S for 4 times, with juice still to spare. Works so good to keep my phone alive.
